Amrita Skye Blaine writes short essays, memoir, fiction, and poetry, developing themes of aging, coming of age, disability, and most of all, the process of unlearning–the heart of the matter. In 2003, she received an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University. Her memoir, Bound to Love: a memoir of grit and gratitude, won first prize in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association literary contest (2005), the IndieBRAG medallion (2016), and first prize in the BAIPA (Bay Area Independent Publishers Association) contest (2016). She has published two novels, Unleashed (2017) and Must Like Dogs (2020). Unleashed won an IndieBRAG medallion. The third novel in the series, Passing the Torch, came out in the summer of 2023. Her spiritual practice is writing a poem a day at first light.
She has had personal essays and poetry published in twelve anthologies, and in national magazines: “In Context” (now known as “Yes!” magazine) and “Catalyst.” Other personal essays have been published in the “Register-Guard” newspaper, and the “Eugene Weekly.” Skye also presented radio essays on KRML 1410 AM in Carmel, CA. Her poems have been accepted for publication by Heart Balm, MacQueen’s Quinterly, Braided Way Magazine, Soul-Lit, The Merton Seasonal, and Delta Poetry Review.

Oh my! I’m touched very deeply, Leigh. Wow! Interesting that you think of my blog as a Buddhist perspective. I don’t, actually. I mostly participate in Advaita and Sufi circles (although I do read Dzogchen teachings, and listen to Adyashanti), but don’t label myself as anything anymore. I was on the Sufi path for 37 years, though…
And I have a problem: I’m so new to this, and don’t follow that many blogs–I think maybe 6, and I have no idea how to find out how many followers someone has. How do I do that? I can only think of two to honor, because you already HAVE been, or I’d pick you! (If I followed many more blogs I wouldn’t find the time to write!)
Can you help me here?

Somehow I missed this eons ago and I was looking for an e-mail address when I saw this. I guess ultimately all spiritual talk is similar, but somehow the way you express seems very Buddhist to me — Sufi is one of the traditions I’ve only studied a little (Paul Ray used to be the Sufi teacher at Nine Gates and I studied with him a bit after; then when Shabda Khan became the Nine Gates Sufi I wound up attending a zikr at his place but that’s it — haven’t even read a book). Anyway, what I’ve done about the blog lists thing is if I don’t have enough when someone nominates I wait until I do. I try to do new people every time so sometimes it’s months before I’ve collected more.
Reason I was looking for e-mail: dates finally set (faint possibility still for change): arrive April 28, leave May 17. I’ll be in Corte Madera without a car — it’s a gorgeous property up one of the hills if you’d like to come for coffee. my e-mail: yogaleigh at earthlink dot net (trying to avoid being picked up by robots).
