coddiwomple

coddiwomple

to travel in a purposeful manner
toward a vague destination
—English slang

the sound rolled,
delicious in my mouth
finally
a word describes
my steadfast course
toward what
I couldn’t see
but knew was true
I’ve been called
obstinate
obdurate
and pigheaded
—I prefer
unwavering—
this journey
that circled here
to home

I’m writing a poem a day. These are drafts—not final versions.

Ha! I love this one. Way to spin it in the right direction! My parents sometimes called it ³self-directed². I¹m smiling over here. Thank you. XO Sylvia
