love at first light

love at first light

love pours down
in every drop of rain
just as first light
comes—it’s not
a lazy rain but
more than shower
less than deluge

the ground
swills it in
this land so dry
reservoirs have
steep copper walls
pleasure boats
crowd in the
pocket-size lake
that remains

birds come awake
in the gray dawn
feast on sunflower
shaking their
red-dusted wings
drops flying, they
crowd the feeder
in the wet chill

each drop that
pings the roof
a grace, a blessing
fills the aquifer
wet love quenching
the thirst of the land
down, down keep
pouring down
this, my prayer

Oh thank you! This describes my feelings and experience listening to the rain so well. Love it. I love reading your poetry in the mornings as I start my day. May your whole year be blessed with unexpected miracles! XO Sylvia
