When we take a position–and hang on to it, demanding a certain outcome–we dam up the flow of life’s natural energy. This is different from taking a position with no attachment to the outcome–sometimes it is necessary to do that.
I find that most of the time, life can be lived without taking a position at all. Instead of leaping to choose one side or the other when an issue comes up, listening and curiosity serve better. With that openness in place, you can trust that the natural response will come.
