hungering for byproducts

magnifying glass like mineIn life, we’re generally hungering for byproducts–happiness, health, beauty, love. Our search may drag us through drugs, alcohol, failed marriages, and years and years of therapy.

When our search has failed to sustain these byproducts–they come and go in a tantalizing way–the spiritual search begins, and now we yearn for the grace, happiness, or bliss that are supposed to be the byproducts of awakening.

But our very search for something outside of this precious, eternal now dooms us to failure. When we fully surrender to life as it is, right now–without any ifs, ands, or buts, we will be free.

Freedom will not look like anything that you could have anticipated. It is simpler and closer to home than you can possibly imagine.
