sacrifice

Mark Nepo, in The Book of Awakening, pg 177, describes “sacrifice” as giving up, with reverence and compassion, what no longer works.

This resonates. To let go of the patterns that no longer support, but with kindness for myself, and for the process. I’ve simply outgrown certain ways of being. Sometimes they fall away on their own; sometimes I see through them–and even though the main root has been severed–the imprint in the feeling body remains for quite a while. Berating myself has mostly fallen away. What is called for is gentleness, or maybe even cleaner than that, dispassion–but not with any sense of chill about it, just simple noticing: to notice the feeling imprint, and let it be.

Yes, let it be. Let it all be.
